TODAY’S DID YOU KNOW...?
Wylie Overstreet and his friends built the first scale model of the solar system, with Earth being the size of a marble. It spans seven miles, includes planetary orbits, and the proportions are so accurate that if you stand near Earth's orbit at sunrise, the model sun and the actual sun appear the same size.
200PCS and assembling time is about 20 hours. The Solar System is a good exercise for hands and spatial awareness because it is made up of many different parts. Also, assembling this model will be a challenge for handcrafted lovers, and it will serve as an excellent development of metalworking skills and technical creativity. Few things are as glamorous as an orrery. First, the craftsmanship required to build this remarkable mechanical model is of the highest order. Just like a globe, a solar system planetarium also has utility functions. It shows the relative positions of the planets in the solar system during a given year and month. Mercury, Venus (Venus will be retrograde), Earth, Mars, Jupiter, etc. all revolve around the sun at different speeds with specific physical laws. Design and build custom brass orreries from scratch. The artwork is of such exceptional quality that it shines with pure gold. The base of the orrery is 10 in diameter. The height of the orrery is approximately 19. The center of Pluto will span to approximate 18 plus Pluto's moons so the total reach would be closer to 20". The Sun is turned from a brass bar. The Earth is ink printed onto sandstone and the planets are painted wooden spheres.
Teach kids all about the planets in our solar system with the Learning Resources Giant Inflatable Solar System Set. With this set, kids can learn about the position, order, and size of the planets and learn about rotation, revolution, and orbit. The inflatables are washable and come with hanging loops so kids can have the outer space-themed playroom or bedroom of their dreams. The planets range in size from 5" to 23" in diameter when inflated. Suitable for ages five and up.
TODAY’S AMAZING FACT:
In the eighteenth century, fold treatments for Bible cysts, which appear on the hand or wrists, included strapping a bullet that had killed an animal to the cyst, rubbing it with a dead man's hand, or hitting it with a heavy book - a remedy that's still in use today (though the Mayo Clinic advises against it), and is how they got the name Bible Cysts.
Who's the most diabolical bad guy in all of video gaming history? Why, it's Bullet Bill, of course! There's not much you can do to stop him, and he's sure to get you at least once.
