Yorkie Splash and Shine ~ Review + Giveaway   While we do have a puppy in our house, it`s not a Yorkie. My mother in law and aunt in law (do they even call them that?) have Yorkies. I have to admit, I think they`re adorable dogs, but they`re not my cup of tea. They`re what I call "yappy" dogs. They bark at ANY and EVERY thing and it drives me crazy. Aside from that though they`re cute and look adorable.

Yorkie Splash was created out of a need for a shampoo to fit the specific needs of Yorkshire terriers. After trying numerous products, we here at Walnut Hill decided that there just wasn`t anything on the market that worked well for every type of Yorkie - sensitive skin, coarse hair, cottony coats, silky coats, dry coats, or oily coats. We finally decided that keeping 5 different kinds of products around was just not manageable. So, we endeavored to make our own! After a lot of research, consulting with experts, and some trial and error on scent, we came up with a "formula" that did exactly what we wanted it to - make every type of Yorkie coat look and feel amazing, and smell great, too. After using our shampoo on our own Yorkies, friends began asking how they could get their hands on some of our shampoo. So, we bottled a little. Pretty soon, word of mouth created a buzz that has continued to grow.

Listed on the label, as ingredients are Organic Oils of Coconut, Olive and Jojoba, Fragrance oil blend, Organic Aloe Vera, Rosemary extract. Coconut oil: It has been common knowledge for several decades within the research community that it contains mostly Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT) or Medium Chain Fatty Acids (MCFA). These extraordinary fat molecules are the main reason coconut oil is so healthy for you. MCFAs such as Caprylic acid (C-8), Capric acid (C-10), and Lauric acid (C-12) hate harmful microorganisms. They destroy bacteria, fungi, viruses, parasites, yeast, etc. that cause minor skin irritation, all the way to the HIV virus (AIDS).  Coconut oil also soothes & moisturizes the skin, creating a lipid barrier that defends the skin against free radical and ultraviolet damage.    Olive Oil: Olive oil is truly a powerhouse when it comes to hair, skin and beauty applications. Its rich, moisturizing properties make it ideal for use on your hair. While you may immediately think of olive oil for cooking, keeping a bottle of olive oil handy in your bathroom can help your hair look healthier, stronger and shinier. Whether you use it as your regular conditioner, a hot oil treatment or as a hair-finishing product, you’ll see the great benefits of olive oil on hair. It will help you cure dandruff problem, and more shine. Another good use for the olive oils on drop coated dogs is because it will make the hair stronger and softer and make the curls go away.  Jojoba oil is not irritating to the skin if apply to dry, itchy and sore skin. It is Antibacterial and deep cleans the hair follicle. If you have a dog with too much sebum, Jojoba oil can dissolve and take out the sebum, allowing the hair to be cleansed. With these benefits and more, using Jojoba oil will definitely bring back the shine, luster, and natural beauty of your hair in an inexpensive and natural way.   Aloe Vera contains protein, calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamins A, B12 and E, essential fatty acids and is naturally rich in: Vitamin C which helps maintain tone of blood vessels and promotes good circulation and is essential to the health of the adrenal gland which supports our body in times of stress. Amino acids, which are chains of atoms constructing protein in our body. Enzymes, which are the life-principle in every live, organic atom and molecule of natural raw food, rejuvenate aged tissues and promote healthy skin. Germanium which is a mineral that some health authorities claim therapeutic benefits for: immunodeficiency, pain, cardiac disorders, circulatory disturbances and eye problems. Enzymes, which are the life-principle in every live, organic atom and molecule of natural raw food, rejuvenate aged tissues and promote healthy skin. Aloe Vera gel has natural antibacterial and fungicidal properties, according to “Aloe Vera the New Millennium: The Future of Wellness in the 21st Century” by Bill C. Coats and Robert Ahola. Various fungi and the spread of bacteria caused by excessive sebum oil production in the scalp can cause dandruff, so using aloe Vera gel shampoo or even massaging pure aloe Vera gel into the scalp can improve this condition. Aloe Vera gel also has proteolytic enzyme characteristics, meaning that it can break down proteins, including dead skin cells. This helps the gel to serve as an exfoliant on the scalp, sloughing away dead skin so that it doesn’t appear later as dandruff. It is also naturally antipruritic, or capable of reliving itching, so it may help you avoid dandruff caused by irritation from frequently scratching an itchy scalp.    Rosemary oil is one of the most popular essential oils, due to its many health benefits. It boosts mental activity, reduces pain and can relieve respiratory problems. In addition to being a popular culinary herb, it is also reported to promote hair growth and thickness. Rosemary oil can help darken your hair over time and stimulate3s hair follicles and helps the hair to grow longer and stronger. It will help you keep the hair soft and manageable.   Now that we know about the ingredients let me talk to you about a note in the label. NOTE; this shampoo is organic and watery. You may also notice a waxy feeling after the first use. This will fade as the coat dries. Let me tell you something that has to be the weirdest feeling I ever experienced in my short grooming life. Once you rinse this shampoo you won’t be able to run your fingers thru the hair. I remember when I was a kid, I love to add white glue in my hands and let it dry then peel it, well the glue was drying I try to clap and my hands bound for few seconds, that is the feeling I got when try this shampoo. This is a shampoo that I would never use without conditioner. Now once you pass that shock the hair dries very quick and it lays flat and is shiny and soft, all those attributes you always find on a show Yorkshire Terrier. Yes, if you want a show look on your yorkie, silkie Maltese or Shih Tzu, you will love this products.   I have to admit I was pretty disappointed with received such small samples rather than a full sized product as I put a lot of effort into my reviews. It was only enough to try out on the Yorkie for about 3 baths and that was using the product sparingly. The conditioner is a perfect complement for the shampoo and it has no silicone in it. It has Castor seed oil, and wheat protein, phantenol vitamin B5 to help that coat look fantastic. The detangling finishing spray did not do much as a detangling, but as a finishing spray was fantastic. The hair brushed so nice and took care of the static making the trim just a breeze. When I visit the Yorkie I used it on after two weeks, there where practically no tangles on her, while usually she is a mess. This combination of products worked really good.
