I am a HUGE fan of Etsy! I love checking out all the unique pieces that come through on there from jewelry to furniture to clothing to wands
to things I never dreamed of! Each piece is unique because someone took their time to hand make their item before posting it.
Recently, I had made a treasury on Etsy called Harry Potter Lovers
where I featured Orchard Works
for one of their beautiful wooden wands
. Lately I actually started reading the Harry Potter books after seeing the films. I`m not a big reader and just getting into some books so yes I know I`m a bit late for this trend. Any how, it inspired me to start seeing what kind of handmade goodies I could find on Etsy. I already saw what I could purchase from a typical store or those pieces actually associated with the books/films and realized they were 1) expensive and 2) cheaply made considering the cost. If I`m going to pay the price for something, I at least want something that I know someone put the work into making. So as I was saying, I made the treasury and featured one of the wands in it.
Not too long after posting my treasury, I received an email from Orchard Works who was delighted for me to check out their wands. This was perfect timing because this month the final Harry Potter film is coming out plus I actually was interested in having a Harry Potter inspired wand for collection purposes! Two days later after making my order for the wands, I received them in the mail! They arrived in a velvet felt like bag fitted for them which added a wonderful "magical" touch.
I was sent two wands. The first one is a Oak Wand
and the other is an Ash Wand
. Both wands are 12 inches in length, one half inch in diameter at the handles and we both are entirely carved and made by hand. They both also include a beautiful gloss finish. The details on the mahogany wand include a triple faceted handle, narrow waist and a long round tip. The pommel is a double banded round tip. The wand with the red stain had a spiral tip with a small band near the end and a narrow banded waist. The squared handle has detailed facets with a triple banded pommel.
So enough about the details and inspiration and such, what do I think? Both wands are absolutely gorgeous! They are both VERY well made. No splinters sticking out. Just very smooth wood work to make a beautiful unique piece. What really amazes me are that these wands are around $15-$20 each depending on which type and style you go with, which is a very reasonable price for the quality and details. They are simple yet detailed all in one if that makes sense.
My favorite of the two I received is the Oak because it`s closer to the Harry Potter inspired one that I am actually interested in. Call me a nerd! Of course, if you`re looking for something specific to your needs, they do take special orders as well! You can get a wand made in a variety of exotic woods such as Kingswood, LignumVitae, Black Palm, Cocobolo, and Redheart. They also have Oak, Cherry, Ash and Maple. Quite a bit to choose from to make your experience unique and your own. Even if you`re not a Harry Potter fan, but just like unique decorative pieces or have other uses, these are beautiful natural pieces at very affordable prices.
I highly recommend checking out Orchard Works for a beautiful piece of art. I definitely look forward to future business with them as well as recommending all my friends, family and readers to them as well! If you do happen to make a purchase, maybe mention you saw them from me on Closet of Free Samples as well! We would both appreciate it of course!
Of course, if you do not intend to make a purchase, please at least leave a comment telling us what you think and maybe what your favorite of the pieces are? Maybe even share some ideas of a wand for them to make!
