Summer is here! If it's not it sure does feel like it. We're in the '80s down here in the south and boy do you feel it! I went outside today to check in on the vegetable garden I have and it was still morning and the sun was scorching! Just from being outdoors for about 5 minutes I was hot and miserable and needed to cool off. Of course, water is the best thing to keep you hydrated, especially in this summer heat, but COLD water is the key. And of course, there's nothing worse than heading to the kitchen to find you only have room temperature water available to you. Yuck! Well, that's where these awesome
ice balls come in!
The biggest secret of niche Japanese bars is finally making its way out to the rest of the world. Ice Ball Mold from Japan allows you to make perfectly seamless ice spheres in seconds, cooling alcohol while not diluting it due to the reduced surface area of the sphere. Plus, even the act of making the sphere grabs attention from all around the bar as the mold presses together without electricity or heat, and makes a perfect shape for a drink “on the rock”.

I was sent an ice ball mold to check out for myself. The molds are silicon and extremely easy to use. I didn't even need instructions or my husbands help for this! You simply put the two pieces of silicon together, allow water to fill up the molds, put in the freezer and wait. After several hours my ice balls were ready! Now the ball part was smooth, but you could tell where I had to break the flat pieces of ice off, that's just from where the excess water sat, but it's no big deal. I say they didn't come out half bad for it being my first time making them! Each mold makes four 2" balls of ice and they fit perfectly inside most cups. They're solid and just all around cool if I can be honest with you. One thing I'm considering is using the mold to make ice ball suckers. Instead of using water, I'd use a juice and then buy some of those lollipop sticks, stick them in the holes where you fill the balls up and let it freeze that way. When it's done you'll have a pop cycle that looks like a lollipop! Hey, it sounds cool to me!
All in all, I think the ice ball mold is super cool. It's unique and fun. It's definitely something that can make your party or get-together to stand out. I mean, how many people have those? Not many (or any) that I know of personally! I'd definitely recommend it!
