About a month back I had finally taken my first trip to check out The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden located here in my hometown of New Orleans. It`s been some time since I`ve done any local reviews and my last one was done in April 2011 of the Beau Rivage Casino/Buffet.
Home to over sixty sculptures from artists from all over the world and set in a stunning environment of meandering footpaths, The Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. (Fridays from 10 a.m. to 8:45 p.m.). The admission is free and The Sculpture Garden is closed on all legal holidays.
The garden itself is beautiful, relaxing and just all around peaceful. It`s a decent size with a brick/rock like trail leading around the various sculptures. The grass is kept cut and the bushes trimmed to ensure the beauty of the area. They have security guards on duty should you need any guidance or help or just a little direction. They also have a public restroom available at the entrance of the garden should you need to use it, which is kept surprisingly clean.
The sculptures are all wonderful pieces of art and seem to be kept clean of dirt. Some status are odd, interesting, sentimental, beautiful and just plain unique. They have a little bit of everything. Although I don`t think this is quite the spot for rambunctious kids, as they would not really appreciate the art, it does make for a nice peaceful outing with the family or even with friends.
If you happen to be in the area, stop by, take a quick walk. You have nothing to lose since it`s free. If you`ve been I`d love to see photos or hear about your experience!
