Just recently I was able to make my first visit to my very first art museum which happens to be our local New Orleans Museum of Art. Honestly, I have never been in an art museum in my life so this was a new and exciting experience for me!
When first arriving to the museum`s location, you get a beautiful view of the outside landscaping and architecture as you arrive. I love driving into the straight line of a street with beautiful trees and pond scenery with the art museum just smack dab in the middle of it all with a beautiful art structure in the front as well as a pond. It`s a gorgeous site to see!
Upon entering the museum you are welcomed by these beautiful large doors with a very open and spacious entrance. To the right is where you purchase your tickets, which I was excited that local students get a discount and on top of that my college I attend gets free entrance!
Around the museum, they have beautiful displays of art by various artists. There`s a mix of Asian, Pottery, African, Crystal, Paintings and so much more. My favorites are the Asian culture as well as what I like to call the Royal style art. I was fascinated with the beautiful fancy egg jewelry and egg pieces they had in a case in one particular exhibit.
As we made our way through all three levels of the museum they had staff throughout the exhibits in case the need of any help or questions about the exhibit came up. I found the staff to be knowledgeable and very able to answer any questions thrown at them in regards to the art work/pieces. It is definitely a great education experience I must say.
At the very end, I, of course, had to browse through the gift shop. Even though I`m local it never changes the fact that I have to look. They had some great collector pieces from jewelry to collectibles to toys for the kids. Once again, my favorite piece the gift shop had to offer was the egg charms which replicated the exhibit which displayed a fancy necklace with egg charms hanging from it as well as a bracelet. Although I loved the necklace, they did not have a replica of it, just simply the charms, which I did find to be a bit pricy, but they are Fabrege style (which tends to be more expensive).
Overall I had a fun experience. I loved what the museum had to offer. It was quiet and peaceful. The staff was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable of the subjects. The best part is since it`s located in City Park, you can enjoy a picnic before or after and let the kids play on the playground when all is said and done. It`s definitely on my list of recommendations for when you come and visit down here in New Orleans!
