Gut Happy

This post first appeared on Piping Rock. All content is theirs.

Our gut is like our second mind. It’s important to keep it well-nourished and in balance. Here’s 3 steps to make your gut happy.

Keeping our gut happy isn’t always on our to-do lists. Though it has become more known in the current years, people are more focused on other aspects of their health; aging skin, state of hearts, etc. Yet, now more than ever, it’s important to pay some homage to our stomachs and gastro tract.

What is up with the gut?

The gut, or the gut microbiota, has been recently looked at as an additional organ system. This system has over 5,000 different strains of bacteria, all of which work together to make things happen internally (1). While we’re individually predisposed to having some combinations thanks to genetics, overall, there are a few factors that affect everyone’s gut. Diet, for instance, is the most prevalent of factors. Keeping up with what you eat, and how you eat, are small ways to ensure gut happiness.

So, today we welcome you to enjoy our post of 3 ways to make your gut happy. They are relatively easy to follow, and we’re sure you’ll be content with the small changes made.

First, let’s talk FIBER.

Fiber. It’s an important add-in for anyone’s diet. Found in many fruits and vegetables, it keeps things moving and grooving. Fiber also is a great food for your bacteria to eat up. So, overall, a beneficial thing to incorporate into your routine to make some changes.

There are a few ways to get your fiber daily in your diet.

First, there’s soluble fiber. This is the type that when added to water becomes gel-like, and is usually sourced from citrus fruits, oats, and psyllium (2).

Second, there’s insoluble fiber. This is the type that works in your digestive system to give things a bit of a boost. It’s from beans, vegetables like broccoli, and nuts (2).

If you don’t have time to add delicious vegetables, or fruits, try our Triple Action Fiber Complex capsules.

Next, let’s SPICE things up.

Lover of some spicy foods? Then you’ll be all for this one. Spices add a little oomph to your system. Plus, they are super simple to add into your daily diet, so this change should be a breeze for you!

Turmeric:

The yellow-golden spice notable for many Indian dishes is the perfect add-in to sweet potatoes and more.

Cinnamon:

Who doesn’t love the smell and taste of cinnamon? This classic spice is a pantry staple. Throw some into your coffee in the morning, and enjoy its benefits all day long.

Lastly, let’s make it FERMENTED.

Kombucha. Sauerkraut. Pickled Vegetables. All three of these delightfully tasting foods are great for you and your gut. The bacteria living in your gut gets hungry, and it loves to be fed foods that are high in fiber and good-for-you carbs. These foods provide them that.
