Germs are everywhere! Door handles, grocery carts, handrails… we are bound to touch a germy surface at any moment of the day. The absolute best way to kill illness causing germs is to wash your hands. The CDC recommends scrubbing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (sing the Happy Birthday song twice in your head). Unfortunately, the opportunity to wash our hands is not always there, so in the meantime, you can use a hand sanitizer.
Make Your Own Hand Sanitizer
Believe it or not, it is actually very easy to make your own hand sanitizer to bring with you for the occasions that you cannot wash your hands. Below are two simple recipes that contain healthy ingredients that you will feel good about using. The Essential Oils used in this blend are perfect for killing germs and reducing bacteria. They could also aid in boosting the immune system and they smell amazing!
Quick and Easy Gentle Hand Sanitizer Gel
In a small bowl stir Essential Oil Blend into the Aloe Gel. Use a funnel to put the mix into the squeeze bottle. Apply a squirt to hands and rub together as needed when washing hands is not an option. The aloe makes this very moisturizing and gentle.
DIY Hand Sanitizer Spray
In a bowl, mix Essential Oils with vegetable glycerin. Add in the witch hazel and blend well. Use a funnel to pour into the spray bottle. Spritz onto hands and rub together for sanitizing when hand washing is not available. Safe to use on kids.
Alcohol Hand Sanitizer (CDC Recommended concentration)
2/3 cup 99% rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)
1/3 Cup Aloe Vera Gel
20 drops of 4 Thieves Oil Blend
In a bowl, mix Essential Oils with Aloe Vera. Add in the rubbing alcohol and blend well. Use a funnel to pour into the spray bottle. Spritz onto hands and rub together for sanitizing when hand washing is not available.
