(From April 2012) It`s been far too long since I`ve had a chance to do any crafts, make new jewelry, or even get my craft room together. Since we`re still getting settled in our new house, we turned the small room into my closet, not completed yet, but it`s been started. I have a lot of jewelry for the typical jewelry stands/cases I see and if it`s a unique one it`s probably out of my budget. So I went custom made! Plus my own earring holder! I went to my local home depot and bought some:
- Brass Hooks
- Wooden Cabinet
- Window Screen Roll
- (2) Strips of wood trim
- 1 pack of thumb tacks
First I made the earring holder. I cut the wood trim down to the size I wanted and used some crafting glue to hold it together. Now I know this probably wasn`t the best strategy, but I was working with limited resources. I then re-enforced it with hot glue so it`d dry quicker to I could complete it. I then used some ribbon I had to wrap the corners to help hold the frame together plus add a unique look to it. Once I Had a single frame around I used the thumb tacks to stretch the screen across the frame. From there I took the rest of the trim and added a second border around the back. So the screen is basically sandwiched in the middle. You want it doubled that way just so it`s not perfectly flat against the wall and earrings can easily be added to it. That was it! Then I used old scrabble pieces to just make it more personable. Next up was my jewelry case. I used the cabinet I found in the closet organization department for just around $69. We used the brass hooks to screw into the door way to hold bracelets and necklaces. In the top drawer I simply had an old small box and rolled up some thicker paper as a temporary ring holder with empty spaces for pins and loose pendants and such. I want to eventually get something more permanent and looks nicer, but it`s a start. I used the bottom space for my various necklace stands to hold the jewelry and the top is just for random findings. I haven`t really completed the whole look, but it`s what I have for now.
