Why spend hundreds of dollars on facials & procedures if you can perform them safely at home? Glycolic peels are safe exfoliating peels that can be used to remove acne scars, reduce the appearance of wrinkles & fine lines, reduce the appearance of large pores, and sooo much more! It is important to note that glycolic peels are safe if used as instructed.
I was lucky to try out the At Home Glycolic Acid Peel Kit from ADSM Beverly Hills, and I have to say, I`m quite impressed it! Best of all, this particular kit not only works great, but is affordable compared to other similar kits I have tried and used. This kit is normally $60, but is currently on sale for $53.60 and you get everything you see pictured. plus, each box tells you exactly how to use it and what is to be used in what order. Seriously, a simple kit, which makes it perfect for newbies!
Kit comes with:
1. Pre Peel Treatment Pads (40 treatment pads)
2. Glycolic Acid Peel (2oz)- Choose your strength
3. Post Peel Treatment Serum (2oz)
4. Fan Brush
For those who do not know, Glycolic acid is a naturally occurring AHA acid derived from cane sugar. 99% of the AHAs used in the beauty industry are synthetically produced, but here at ASDM Beverly Hills, our glycolic acid is naturally sourced from cane sugar. Topically applying glycolic acid helps to chemically exfoliate the epidermis, removing dead & dull skin and bringing new skin to the surface. All of our glycolic peels are unbuffered, conserving their high strength and low pH level. For this reason we strongly suggest starting at 10% and slowly moving up in strength as your skin adjusts to the peel. We carry glycolic acid from 10% to 70%.
We always recommend that first time users begin at 10% and slowly increase every month or so until desired results are achieved. If your skin is oily, combination, non sensitive, or is accustomed to peels, then you can start at 25% but we always recommend proceeding with caution. Always perform a patch test on skin to ensure that acid is not too strong for you. Please keep in mind that not all chemical peels are the same. Some can be buffered to reduce their strength. This brand of peels are pure and unbuffered, making them maximum strength.
Please note: Post peel care is crucial for successful results. Avoid sun exposure, use a good healing moisturizer, avoid hot tubs and hot water or heat on face. Do not use any other strong products after a peel. We recommend that you do not use make up the first 2 days after a peel. You can resume makeup the next day or in 2 days if your skin is very sensitive. We always recommend that deeper peels be performed by a certified esthetician or dermatologist because they will be able to more closely monitor progress of a peel. This product comes with full instructions on the packaging.
As I stated in the beginning, this peel is great for beginners. I have used other peel kits that had my skin burning after instant contact and I don`t consider my skin that sensitive, just slightly sensitive. As in, I can wear any makeup without breakout as far as I know, but I still break out with pimples and my skin is sensitive to jewelry. So just to give an idea. This brand gave me no issues. The worst I felt was a tingling. Now for me, I choose to do this just one per week, as it is recommended, but your use depends on your skin, your needs, and what you`re looking to achieve. I recommend taking it easy at first and slowly work your way up to more peels, but definitely no more than twice per week! Just do your research!
Let`s get started:
Step 1: Remove makeup
Step 2: Cleanse face with an oil-free cleanser and pat dry.
Step 3: Smooth ASDM Beverly Hills Pre Peel Treatment Pad over face avoiding eye and lip area
Step 4: Once dry, apply chemical peel as instructed in packaging.
Step 5: Leave on 1-5 minutes. Watch for redness, if too much redness or pain occurs immediately neutralize peel.
Step 6: To neutralize peel, apply several pumps of Post Peel Treatment Serum unto clean fan brush included with packaging. Apply liberally onto face. You can apply several layers of product onto face until you’ve completely covered all treatment areas. Upon application, you will feel a warm, tingling sensation which is normal. Mild foaming is also expected as acid is being neutralized. Once foaming action has ceased, acid has been fully neutralized. Regardless, leave on for a full 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Follow up with your favorite moisturizer.
Here`s a little further breakdown on each of the items...
The Pre-Peel Treatment pads are there to help to maximize the effectiveness of ANY chemical peel, not just this brand, although I recommend sticking to this brand and their products. The solution works naturally to lower your skin`s PH, while unblocking pores and eliminating excess oil. It`s basically an easy to use application method, which minimizes any product waste and ensures an even application.
For the Glycolic Acid, be sure to have a neutralizing solution ready to stop the action of the acid in the event it is needed. Such as if it`s burning you too much. I recommend making a 50/50 solution of baking soda and water. When you apply it, be sure to use a cotton ball and apply more pressure on areas that need added exfoliation. Then, wait 2-3 minutes. Be sure to rinse thoroughly with warm water. If needed, you can use the neutralizing solution.
The Post Peel Treatment not only focuses on rebalancing the skin`s PH, but also delivers vital healing actives to accelerate the skin`s healing rate. This is extremely important as it will reduce irritation, inflammation, and maintain skin at a healthy state. I like to ALSO follow up with a moisturizer. I use Vitamin C mixed with Vitamin E. These not only make your skin soft, but it makes a huge difference in keeping it moisturized.
As a fair warning though, these product contain Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) that is likely to increase your skin`s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of a sunburn. Be sure to use sunscreen, wear protective clothing, and limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterward for your own protection.
As for my results using the peel? Since starting with it, my skin has become a lot clearer. It looks more "youthful" so to speak. I have not had any negative reactions to using the peel. No rashes. No outbreaks - none of that. I love how soft and smooth my face has become. I`m also a fan of the drastic reduction in pimple break outs. While this doesn`t happen over night, adding this peel into my weekly skincare routine has certainly made a difference. As I said before though and want to stress once again, do your research before you use any peel. Educate yourself on the possible side effects, how to handle them, etc. Every person is different. If you know you`re very sensitive to skincare products, you are the person, in particular, who needs to research peels. There are different types and each will effect you differently. Not sure what`s best for you? Contact the kind folks over at ADSM Beverly Hills for recommendations on what you should try for your skin!
