COPY-KIDS MEDIA, an independent media company, presents its debut DVD. Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables is the first DVD in a series designed to encourage healthy habits in young children. This series is for children aged six months to 5 years. Not only did I get a dvd to check out, but one of you will as well! And trust me moms, as silly as this sounds, you won’t want to miss out on this one for your youngsters!

Copy Kids Eat Fruit and Vegetables is divided into 12 chapters, each focusing on a different fruit or vegetable. The yummy veggies and fruits include: Bell Peppers, Cucumbers, Carrots, Avocado, Tomatoes, Broccoli, Oranges, Bananas, Raspberries, Strawberries, Apples & Blueberries.
The genesis for the project came when Cai Dixon noticed her young daughter was more willing to try new fruits and vegetables when she saw another child eating them. Bella liked to copy. Dixon wondered if the experience had to be live, or if a video of children eating fruits and vegetables would also work? “It did, and not just with Bella,” recalls Dixon. And so a concept was born: Find children who LOVE to eat fruits and veggies, film them eating them – and make the video available to parents. It’s that simple. Says Dixon, “I never would have expected my child to eat raw broccoli – but she demanded it as soon as she saw another child eating it on TV. Now it is one of her favorite vegetables.” For parents, the DVD also features an interview with renowned pediatrician Dr. Jay Gordon, MD, FAAP, author of Good Food Today, Great Kids Tomorrow. He talks about childhood overweight and obesity, suggests ways that parents can get their children to make healthier food choices, and explains why Copy-Kids is such a powerful idea, noting “That’s just the way kids are, they love to copy other kids.”

My thoughts: Honestly, when I accepted the offer to review this I thought it would be just another silly dvd that someone came up with. It came in the mail, again, thinking nothing much of it. When I began preparing for my review, I did the usual of taking photos. I thought I’d have to force Sophia into watching it. Much to my surprise, this dvd does exactly what it says it does. All it does is show younger children eating the veggies and fruits. That’s it! Live kids, eating food. Honestly, would you sit down and watch it? I know I wouldn’t. But Sophia was absolutely memorized by it and she’s 4. I honestly could not believe it.

Then I figured her attention couldn’t possibly last long on that. No music. No talking. Just kids eating the veggies. It’s divided into various sections such as a short segment on kids eating broccoli. Then you select another one, maybe you go with watching them eat tomatoes. That’s all there is. Yes, I’m still in amazement thinking of it how she literally enjoys watching this when she typically watches Magic School Bus, Strawberry Shortcake, Scooby Doo, etc. Things of that nature. Not only does she enjoy watching the dvd, but after about 30 minutes she came out her room to ask to eat some carrots! Now she NEVER asks for carrots. Granted these baby carrots weren’t quite what she liked, but the point is she was genuinely looking to eat them.

Needless to say I am HIGHLY IMPRESSED by such a simple dvd. I definitely recommend this to all parents trying to get those young ones on the right path to eating healthy. You may be bored out of your mind with the video, but your child is going to love it!
